What

FANTASMAS is a documentary series, and a bittersweet love letter to the city of Rio.

Shot entirely on point-and-shoot film cameras, the series weaves through decadent street parties, and the chilling emptiness of the deserted stadiums left over from the 2016 Olympic Games: actual skeletons of a huge shattered dream.

Lingering between euphoria and disenchantment – drifting from the patriotic ostentation of one event to the abandoned ruins of another – FANTASMAS tells a dark and glittering tale: the behind the scenes, the gritty realities of a country that we always see behind masks.

It’s a fleeting glimpse of the contradictions and ghosts haunting Brazil, feeding one of the continent’s biggest socio-economic heartaches of the century.
